Swedish travelling vehicle enthusiasts Cyan Racing have discovered a much less practical, much less targeted, softer model of a completely vintage Volvo the sector seems to have largely forgotten. Expensive, too.

So, sweep all of that aside right now and acquaint yourselves with the mind-numbingly acceptable Volvo P1800 Cyan’ GT’, a comfort-oriented iteration of the alternative lovely Volvo P1800 Cyan first discovered again in 2020.

That 2020 vehicle was basically a turbocharged thought test: what if Cyan Racing, more than one traveling car international champion, were working in the Sixties at some point during the reign of the unique Volvo P1800? What form of automobile could they’ve cooked up?

A bloody suited one, that’s what. This 2024 complies with-up tones down the original’s tune-focused heroics and alternatively redials the whole lot lower back to the unique Volvo P1800 schtick: grand traveling.

As such, the fully adjustable suspension has been tweaked for USA roads and proper long-distance cruising (study: it’s in all likelihood a chunk softer) as opposed to the unique vehicle’s “flat-out-via-this-apex-uh-oh-this-is-going-very-sideways-very-speedy’.

There’s a much broader preference for engine output, too. Where the authentic vehicle punched out 414bhp from its turbocharged 2.0-litre visiting car engine (the equal one that powered Cyan’s S60 TC1 car to the 2017 WTCC title), you can now choose from among 345bhp and 414bhp. Cyan says the overall performance is now tuned for ‘drivability’ instead of outright grunt.

It’s matched to a five-speed Holinger gearbox (and rear-wheel-force), mounted inside the same broader, bolstered, and upgraded bodyshell as the 2020 vehicle. This way, it combines high-strength metallic and carbon fiber with the unique Volvo P1800’s weaker points ironed out.

Heck, there is more excellent sound deadening on board this time—more comfy seats. Even the titanium roll cage has been redesigned for better consolation. It’s superbly analogue inside, too, and this first automobile – built for a consumer within the US – features a fabulous inexperienced frame paired with a sand-coloured interior. Naturally, every automobile is entirely bespoke to every patron.

This is why each car takes 12-15 months to construct, with the average price soaring across the $600,000 mark. Cyan advised TG that there’s no set range of vehicles to be built. However, it’ll be an excellent low quantity.

1. Engine: The heart of the Volvo P1800 GT is a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine. This four-cylinder unit is derived from the Volvo S60 TC1 racing car.

2. Power: The engine makes as much as 414 horsepower in its highest state of tune but there are lesser versions, starting at 345 horsepower.

3. Transmission: Output is channeled to the rear axle through a five-speed Hollinger gearbox tailor-made for this new application¹.

4. Body: The gorgeous body is made from carbon fibre.

5. Weight: It remains a lightweight car, tipping the scales at less than 2,204 pounds.

6. Suspension: The GT is fitted with a fully adjustable suspension.

7. Interior: The interior has received additional sound-deadening material and a bespoke titanium roll cage.

8. Build Time: Each build takes between 12 to 15 months to complete.

9. Location: Cyan Racing assembles the cars at its facility in Gothenburg, Sweden.

10. Price: Pricing details have not been disclosed, but the regular P1800 can cost as much as $700,000.
